Discussion:
Living with an addict there is a tendency to live with “blinders”
on. Sometimes, this is motivated from our
own reluctance of having to face the disappointment, especially when our loved
one is on the road of recovery. However, God calls
us to WATCH and to keep our eyes open.
Because of the dynamics of husband-wife, parent-child, having a family
member do the job of a Sponsor is not what I mean here. We are not to force our child or spouse into
admitting because this often leads to them shutting down or worse, but we know
them so well and we can tell when there are slight changes in their
personalities, mannerism and thinking that can reveal to us when they are in
danger. Encouraging our loved ones to be
honest, praying over them, being faithful and intervening when it is necessary is
all part of being "keepers" of our loved ones.
All of our motivation should be out of love. Jesus had no problems calling out his disciples
when they were in the wrong yet he loved them.
At the last supper he knew that Judas was to betray him, he knew that
Peter would deny him, yet he didn’t banish them from his last supper or deny
them the blood and body of Christ. So we
should also be honest with ourselves as well as your loved ones and ask when
you suspect, check when you feel there is betrayal, pursue IN LOVE when you
know there is something wrong. If you
love the way Jesus loves, stand in faith the way that you should and pray for
vision He WILL reveal their suffer to you.
Journal:
When has God intervened in your interactions with your
loved one to reveal their using? How did
he speak to you in those moments?
Breathe Prayer:
Lord help me to have your vision. Show me what I need to see.
Meditation:
Continue to pray for vision. He will continue to reveal to you if you
ask. Focus on your reaction and suppress
the need to respond in anger, respond in LOVE! Love them so much and remind them of it. "I wont let you lie to me because I LOVE you that much!" They suffer from feeling unloved HEAP love on them but do not turn a blind eye.
